![]() ![]() ![]() While a great and terrible weapon that comes at a great cost of a child's soul with each usage, it is more akin to a nuclear bomb modern superpowers would occasionally threaten each other with. ![]() While trading ports exist and villagers offer what meager aid they can between chapters, the crew of the Taranis only have each other for the majority of the story. The true game lies in managing limited action points for intermissions between bouts of fighting - improving the tank's weapons and armour for immediately visible returns, building bonds between crew-mates and tending to the physical and mental wounds of the injured and depressed to name a few. ![]() Bonding scenes (with the occasional ship-tease here and there, mostly straight) forged with camaraderie under intense fire or relaxing conversations during lulls in the fighting show more nuance to these children while laying the foundations for future character development or lore spoilers for entries set far into the future of the Tail Concerto setting. Its characters are simple yet lovable, with each and every one of them having an obvious main shtick or quality that is prone to caricature. But more importantly, it teaches us that hope should never be given up, even in our darkest times. A game with hand-drawn illustration sand a deceptively cosy and warm aesthetic, Fuga: Melodies of Steel forces its main cast of anthropomorphic children to reckon with the costs of war in addition to the psychological toll of losing loved ones as well as sustaining battlefield trauma. ![]()
